AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, TO SEE REAL ACTION TAKE PLACE IN OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY. SO ANOTHER 40 YEARS FROM NOW, THIS CONVERSATION IS NOT TAKING PLACE AGAIN. I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO TAKE PLACE IN A LINKAGE SESSION LAST YEAR. AND THAT IS WHERE I MET ONE OF THE STUDENTS WHO WAS INTERVIEWED FOR THE VIDEO. THERE WAS MUCH ANTICIPATION AND HOPE FROM ALL THESE SESSIONS AND ALL THE CONVERSATIONS. THERE WERE SO MANY -- ESPECIALLY BLACK MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY WHO TOOK THE TIME AND GAVE SO MUCH ENERGY TO SHARE THEIR STORIES INPUT AND FEEDBACK. ONLY TO SEE A PROPOSED POLICY THAT DOES NOT CENTER THE FACT THAT RACE IS THE SINGLE MOST FACTOR IN PREDICTING EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES. THAT DOESN'T TAKE OWNERSHIP OF EXISTING INEQUALITIES IN OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM. ONE OF THE SIGNIFICANT PILLARS THAT UPHOLDS WHITE SUPREMACY IS OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM. IF WE CANNOT ADDRESS THAT IN A POLICY THAT IS SUPPOSED TO WORK TOWARDS EQUITY? THEN THIS COLORBLINDNESS WILL KEEP US MAINTAINING THE STATUS QUO AS BIPOC STUDENTS CONTINUE TO SUFFER IN SILENCE. THIS COUNSEL WILL SERVE AS A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF HOW TO GET STUDENTS MORE INVOLVED WITH AN ISSUE THAT DIRECTLY IMPACTS THEM.
