SO WE HAVE REDMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND KIRKLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL. ROSE HILL. TIMBERLINE . ENGLEWOOD. PRETTY GOOD. A FEW BARE SPOTS BUT THEY HAVE RECENTLY RECEDED. HILL IS NOT DOING SO WELL. BOARD , DR. HOLMEN, I APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS YOU TODAY. I COME BEFORE YOU AS A CONCERNED MEMBER OF OUR COMMUNITY AND PARENT OF A DAUGHTER WHO IS ALSO AN EIGHTH GRADE MIDDLE SCHOOL OR . I'M SEEKING YOUR SUPPORT FOR A CRITICAL ISSUE THAT ASPEN JUST TOUCHED ON TOO THAT AFFECTS THE SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF OUR STUDENTS. THE PROBLEM IN QUESTION IS THE DETERIORATING CONDITION OF OUR SCHOOL SPORTS FIELD AND TRACK, WHICH POSES SIGNIFICANT SAFETY CONCERNS FOR CHILDREN PARTICIPATING IN SPORTS AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION ACTIVITIES. OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL HAS A RICH TRADITION OF PROMOTING PHYSICAL EDUCATION, TEAMWORK , AND OVERALL STUDENT WELLNESS. THE SPORTS FIELD AND TRACK ARE FUNDAMENTAL TO ACHIEVING THOSE OBJECTIVES, SERVING AS THE PRIMARY VENUE FOR SOCCER, TRACK AND FIELD, INTRAMURAL SPORTS, AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASSES . HOWEVER, THE CURRENT STATE OF THESE FACILITIES IS CAUSE FOR ALARM. THEY ARE NOT ONLY IN DISREPAIR, BUT THEY HAVE BECOME INCREASINGLY UNSAFE. UNEVEN SURFACES LEND THEMSELVES TO INJURIES, SUCH AS ROLLED ANKLES, SHIN INJURIES, AND FOOT PAIN. WHEN THE TRACK IS NOT WET, IT GENERATES AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF DUST THAT AGGRAVATES ASTHMA AND OTHER BREEDING PROBLEMS. I HAVE ATTENDED PRACTICES AND PE CLASSES WHERE I HAVE SEEN THE EFFECTS OF THIS ON OUR CHILDREN , AND IT IS UNACCEPTABLE. THIS SENDS A MESSAGE TO OUR STUDENTS. THAT THEIR SAFETY IS NOT A PRIORITY. WE MUST CONVEY TO THEM THAT THEIR WELL-BEING -- PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH AND ASPIRATIONS -- ARE AT THE FOREFRONT OF HOW WE ALLOCATE OUR DISTRICT RESOURCES. WE UNDERSTAND THAT REDOING THE TRACK AND FIELD IS NOT FEASIBLE . WE UNDERSTAND THAT. ESPECIALLY WHEN THE SCHOOL IS SCHEDULED FOR A REMODEL IN FIVE PLUS YEARS. HOWEVER, WE STILL NEED AND CANNOT IGNORE THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE DECISION TO NOT TAKE CARE OF THE FIELD AND TRACK AT EVERGREEN.
STUDENTS ARE FORCED TO USE FACILITIES THAT ARE NOT ONLY INADEQUATE BUT UNSAFE. WE ARE NOT REQUESTING EXTRAVAGANT TRANSFORMATION. JUST THE BASIC AMOUNT OF MAINTENANCE THAT WAS ALREADY COMMITTED TO BY THE DISTRICT'S POLICIES FOR OUR SCHOOL. OUR STUDENTS DESERVE ACCESS TO SAFE AND FUNCTIONAL SPORTS FACILITIES. WHEN OUR STUDENTS STEP ONTO THE FIELD, THEY SHOULD DO SO WITH THE CONFIDENCE THAT THEY ARE IN A SECURE ENVIRONMENT WHERE THEY CAN DO THEIR BEST. THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO FOCUS ON LEARNING, VALUABLE LIFE SCHOOLS, SUCH AS TEAMWORK, SEVERANCE, AND DISCIPLINE, WITHOUT FEARING FOR THEIR SAFETY OR TEMPERING PARTICIPATION SO THAT THEY FEEL SAFE. IN CONCLUSION, WE STAND UNITED IN OUR REQUEST FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO RECONSIDER ITS DECISION AND ITS ALLOCATION OF RESOURCES. WE URGE YOU TO ALLOCATE BUDGET TO MAINTAIN THE SPORTS FIELD AND TRACK TO ENSURE THE MAINTENANCE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED. WEARING MY PTA HAD, I WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND A HUGE THANK YOU TO DR. LAKE WASHINGTON FOR FOR TAKING THE TIME TO JOIN OUR PANEL DISCUSSION ON FACILITIES THIS PAST WEEKEND DURING OUR LEGISLATIVE MEETING. IT IS AFFECTING ALL OF US TO SOME DEGREE ALREADY. I DO HAVE A FEW CONCERNS ABOUT WHETHER THE FINAL POLICY LANGUAGE WILL INCLUDE ALL POLLUTION, NOT JUST CARBON, AS WELL AS SPECIFIC REDUCTION TARGETS AND PROGRESS MONITORING. THIS IS WHERE THE HOPE LIES. I ALSO WONDER IN GENERAL WHY I'M NOT HEARING MORE ABOUT THE GENEROUS FUNDING FOR SCHOOLS IN THE INFLATION REDUCTION ACT, PARTICULARLY DURING POLICY AND FACILITIES LANDING DISCUSSIONS. AS A REMINDER, THROUGH THE I.R.A., EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL IN OUR DISTRICT IS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE A REBATE FOR BETWEEN 30 TO 50% OF THE COST OF GEOTHERMAL HEAT PUMPS, SOLAR WIND, AND OTHER RENEWABLE ENERGY STORAGE PROJECTS, AS WELL AS SIMILAR REBATES FOR ZERO EMISSION VEHICLES, BUSES AND CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE. IN ADDITION, ALL CONTRACTORS WHO IMPROVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN OUR SCHOOLS CAN RECEIVE GENEROUS TAX DEDUCTIONS HELPING TO REDUCE RENOVATION COSTS OVERALL. APPRENTICESHIPS ARE INCENTIVIZED AS PART OF THE PACKAGE, CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR JOB TRAINING AND EMPLOYMENT ACROSS OUR REGION. THERE ARE ONGOING GRANT OPPORTUNITIES PROVIDING LOW TO NO INTEREST LOANS TO HELP CERTAIN SCHOOLS LEVERAGE THESE BENEFITS. MANY DISTRICTS ARE PARTNERING WITH LOCAL UTILITIES, NONPROFITS, BUSINESSES, AGENCIES, AND MORE TO ACCESS THESE FUNDING STREAMS AND REALIZE THE OPERATIONAL COST SAVINGS AND SUSTAINABILITY GOALS ALL IN ONE. OUR DISTRICT IS IN A UNIQUE POSITION TO ENGAGE IN THESE PARTNERSHIPS AND EVEN TO PILOT INNOVATIVE NEW PRODUCTS . THIS FUNDING WILL NOT BE AROUND FOREVER. LASTLY, THE ADVISER PROJECT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE HAVE A COMMITMENT TO OUR STUDENTS TO HELP PREPARE THEM FOR THE DIGITAL WORLD WE LIVE IN. AND OUR GOAL THERE IS TO REFRESH THIS WORK BY IDENTIFYING DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE RESOURCES FOR ALL STUDENTS AND FIND CONNECTIONS FOR THESE LESSONS TO ALIGN WITH OUR EXISTING STANDARDS AND CURRICULUM. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT CLASS-SIZE HAS A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT, ESPECIALLY IN THE EARLY GRADES. SMALLER CLASSES ALLOW TEACHERS TO PROVIDE MORE INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION, FEEDBACK, AND SUPPORT THEIR STUDENTS AND ALSO FOSTER BETTER STUDENT-TEACHER RELATIONSHIPS, CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT, AND STUDENT ENGAGEMENT. ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL CENTER FOR EDUCATION STATISTICS, THE AVERAGE CLASS-SIZE IN THE U.S. IS 20 STUDENTS PER CLASS. THE LAKE WASHINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS IN SECOND AND THIRD GRADE SHOULD AVERAGE 23 STUDENTS PER CLASS, WHICH IS ABOVE THE RECOMMENDED MAXIMUM OF 22 STUDENTS PER CLASS BY THE NATIONAL EDUCATION ASSOCIATION . ACCORDING TO THE PRINCIPLE, THERE IS NO AVAILABILITY TO HIRE A NEW TEACHER TO BETTER MEET THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS IN THE CURRENT LAKE WASHINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT STAFFING LEVEL. OUR ASK IS TO ADD A TEACHER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE YEAR IS NOT UNPRECEDENTED. TWO YEARS AGO WHEN THEY EXCEEDED THE ACCEPTABLE CLASS SIZES, A THIRD TEACHER WAS ADDED MIDYEAR. WHILE THE SAME ALLOCATION SYSTEM WAS USED ACROSS ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN LAKE WASHINGTON, THIS PARTICULAR GROUP OF STUDENTS HAS BEEN DISPROPORTIONATELY IMPACTED NOT ONLY DUE TO THE CLASS-SIZE BUT LONG-TERM SUBSTITUTES TWO YEARS IN A ROW AND MORE STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM REQUIRING ADDITIONAL LEARNING SUPPORT AND RESOURCES THAT ARE AVAILABLE. 2023 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES ARE TO SUPPORT EVERY STUDENT AND THE CHILD WITH THE PROTOTYPICAL SCHOOL MODEL THAT REFLECTS THE ACTUAL STAFF REQUIRED TO SUPPORT THE STUDENT LEARNING PROGRAMS. WE UNDERSTAND THE BOARD IS REQUIRED TO MAKE DIFFICULT BUDGET DECISIONS, BUT WE STRONGLY BELIEVE THEY SHOULD NOT RESULT IN LARGER CLASS SIZES. SMALL TEACHER-STUDENT RATIOS ARE VIRTUALLY CITED AS A LEADING BENEFIT OF PRIVATE SCHOOLING. 60% OF K-12 STUDENTS ARE IN PRIVATE SCHOOL EDUCATION COMPARED TO 9% STATE AVERAGE. WE HAVE SEEN THIS PERCENTAGE OF FAMILIES CHOOSING PRIVATE EDUCATION INCREASE 30% DUE TO DISTRICT MISMANAGEMENT. WE ARE PROACTIVELY REACHING OUT AS A FIRST STEP FOR LAKE WASHINGTON TO NOT FOLLOW THAT TREND. WE URGE YOU TO TAKE ACTION TO REDUCE CLASS-SIZE. WHAT IS A SKILL CENTER? IT IS A REGIONAL SECONDARY SCHOOL THAT SERVES HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM MULTIPLE DISTRICTS. WHAT THIS DOESN'T SAY IS IT IS A CTE PROGRAM. IT IS A CAREER IN TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM. THERE IS 14 SKILL CENTERS ACROSS THE STATE OF WASHINGTON. WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE ONE RIGHT HERE IN OUR BACKYARD, WHICH PROVIDES THE GREATEST LEVEL OF ACCESS TO STUDENTS IN LAKE WASHINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT . WHERE IS IT AND WHAT SCHOOL DISTRICTS PARTICIPATE? THE MAIN CAMPUS IS LOCATED -- THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP ON THE LAKE WASHINGTON INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY JUST UP THE HILL IN KIRKLAND. IT IS A UNIQUE SKILL CENTER AS COMPARED TO ALL

ANY PARTNER DISTRICT COULD HAVE A CLASSROOM OR CLASS LOCATED IN ONE OF THEIR HIGH SCHOOLS. THE CURRENT MAKEUP OF DISTRICTS -- THE BELLEVUE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS LAKE WASHINGTON AS THE HOST MERCER ISLAND. NORTH SHORE RIVERVIEW. SNOQUALMIE VALLEY.JUST RECENTLY, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT CHOSE TO LEAVE AND PARTNER WITH SNOW I'LL. THE SKILL CENTER THAT IS CLOSER TO EVERETT PUBLIC SCHOOLS . OBVIOUS REASONS. I CANNOT IMAGINE COMMUTING FROM EVERETT DOWN TO KIRKLAND FOR A THREE HAVING CREDIT PROGRAM. I DON'T EVEN THINK IT IS POSSIBLE ACTUALLY. FOR A LOT OF GOOD REASONS, THEY CHOSE TO STEP AWAY FROM IT. WE ARE THE HOST DISTRICT. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? THAT MEANS FUNDING FOR THE PROGRAM FLOWS THROUGH LAKE WASHINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT. ALL OF THE STAFF THAT ARE THERE ARE WASHINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT STAFF. SOME ARE EMPLOYEES OF THE DISTRICT SO THEY ARE CONTRACTED AND ALL OF THOSE PIECES AT LAKE WASHINGTON STAFF MEMBERS. BENEFITS OF COMPLETING THE SKILL CENTER PROGRAM. I GRABBED THIS FROM THE ASSOCIATION OF WASHINGTON SKILL CENTERS. THEY HAD, LIKE, 50 BULLETS THAT I TRIED TO SUMMARIZE IN JUST A FEW. BUT IT REALLY IS ABOUT PREPARATION FOR THE WORKPLACE BUT ALSO PREPARATION FOR COLLEGE. ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS AND PROGRAMS STUDENTS ARE BEING ACCREDITED. THEY ARE RECEIVING EITHER AP OR COLLEGE CREDIT. THESE ARE RIGOROUS COURSES. SO STUDENTS TRULY ARE PREPARED FOR THE NEXT STEP. YOU CAN SEE THE THIRD BULLET FROM THE BOTTOM. THEY ARE PARTICIPATING IN INTERNSHIPS AND PRE-APPRENTICES HIPS. WORKSITE LEARNING. THEY CAN RECEIVE CERTIFICATES OF COMPETENCY. I ACTUALLY PRINTED OFF SOME OF THOSE COMPETENCIES BECAUSE IT IS PRETTY REMARKABLE WHAT STUDENTS CAN LEAD. A+ CERTIFIED . YOU SEE THAT IN AUTOMOTIVE SHOP. AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE EXCELLENCE CERTIFICATES. CISCO COMPUTER NETWORKING. NURSING ASSISTANT CERTIFIED . THE MICROSOFT ORACLE . THESE VARIOUS PIECES THAT -- TO LEAVE HIGH SCHOOL WITH THAT KIND OF SKILL SET AND THAT KIND OF RECOGNITION IS PRETTY REMARKABLE. OUR CURRENT '23-'24 PROGRAMS -- I LISTED THEM OUT AND THEN LISTED THE SCHOOL DISTRICT WHERE THEY ARE LOCATED . IF THERE IS NO LOCATION LISTED, THAT MEANS IT IS THAT OUR SKILL CENTER OR -- WE KIND OF CONNECT THOSE TWO. YOU CAN SEE WE HAVE TWO AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMS . THOSE TEACHERS SAY, YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE EVER TOUCHED A PENCIL IN YOUR LIFE AND WE WILL TURN YOU INTO AN ARTIST. AND THEY DO. AND KIDS ARE ENGAGED, AND DIGIT PIN IS ALL ABOUT MEETING THE STANDARDS THAT ARE SET. SO KIDS WORK THROUGH THOSE STANDARDS AT THEIR OWN PACE. WHAT THEY REALIZE IS AS STUDENTS FINISHED THEIR ACQUISITION OF SKILLS THAT FOR THE DURATION OF THE CORE OR SEMESTER THEY WOULD IDENTIFY A PROJECT -- A SELF-INTEREST PROJECT. IT IS NOT GRADED. WE HAVE BROUGHT ON THE STAFF MEMBER -- CERTIFICATED STAFF MEMBER WITH BACKGROUND IN SPECIAL EDUCATION BECAUSE WE KNOW THERE IS A HIGHER RATE OF STUDENTS THAT MOLLIFY FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION 504 SERVICES AND STUDENTS WOULD COME TO THEIR PROGRAM AND ALL OF THE SUPPORTS THAT ARE LISTED IN THE IEP WOULD ESSENTIALLY VANISH. BARBARA'S WHOLE ROLE IS TO COLLABORATE AND CONNECT WITH HIGH SCHOOLS TO MAKE SURE THAT THE SERVICES THAT STUDENTS NEED -- THE ACCOMMODATIONS THAT STUDENTS NEED ACTUALLY ARE COMING WITH THEM. YOU CAN IMAGINE THE SIZE OF HER CASELOAD. SHE IS NOT MANAGING THE IEP, BUT HER PIECES ALL AROUND THE COORDINATION AND COLLABORATION TO MAKE SURE TEACHERS HAVE WHAT THEY NEED TO SUPPORT THE STUDENTS IN THEIR ACCOMMODATIONS. THERE ARE THREE EVENTS THAT I WAS INVOLVED WITH THE LAST FEW WEEKS. FIRST OF ALL, I ATTENDED -- I'M SORRY IF I AM GOING TO GET THE EXACT TERM FOR THE EVENT WRONG, BUT THE NEW FAMILIES -- WELCOME TO LAKE WASHINGTON . PRIMARILY IT WAS INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS, IF I RECALL CORRECTLY. FANTASTIC.
GETTING TO MEET -- IN FACT, I MADE SURE TO STAY AROUND AND TRY TO MEET AS MANY FAMILIES AS POSSIBLE TO LET THEM KNOW HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATED THEM CHOOSING LAKE WASHINGTON . YOU KNOW, WE ARE HERE TO HELP THEM . STAFF IS HERE TO HELP THEM.

IF YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE AND YOU WANT TO TRY TO GET A FEEL FOR THINGS, TO SEE SOME OF THESE KIDS PARTICIPATE AND COMPETE , IT WAS OUTRAGEOUS. AND IT WAS FIVE SUPERINTENDENTS . TOM SIEGEL FROM THE BETHEL SCHOOL DISTRICT. ABOUT 20,000+ STUDENTS IN THAT DISTRICT. YOU MAY REMEMBER TOM BEING VERY VOCAL AND AN ADVOCATE FOR SIMPLE MAJORITY . THEY HAD TO DO SOME PRETTY TREMENDOUS WORK AROUND GETTING A BOND PASSED.

IN CHILEAN SCHOOL DISTRICT . SCHOOL DISTRICT OF 190 STUDENTS. 93% NATIVE STUDENTS IN HIS SCHOOL DISTRICT. KYLE RIDDELL. WEST VALLEY IN SPOKANE. ABOUT 3200 STUDENTS. I REPRESENTED LAKE WASHINGTON. REALLY THE FOCUS WAS TO UNDERSTAND SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION FUNDING, ADVOCACY. AND IT WAS PRETTY INTERESTING TO HEAR ALL FIVE OF US COMING FROM TREMENDOUSLY DIFFERENT CONTEXTS . TO HEAR OUR SUPPORT SERVICES AND FACILITIES UPDATE TONIGHT, WE ARE SO FORTUNATE THAT OUR COMMUNITY IS HIGHLY SUPPORTIVE OF OUR LEVEES . THE BOND WE PASSED A HANDFUL OF YEARS AGO. THE CONSTRUCTION LEVEES THAT HAVE PASSED . BUT REALLY THE SENSE THAT ALL OF US HAD WAS, THERE NEEDS TO BE A REVAMP OF STATE CONSTRUCTION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM . THE FUNDING MODEL. IT HAS TO BE DIFFERENTIATED. IN CHILE AND THEY HAVE A DEBT CEILING OF $3.5 MILLION. THAT IS WHAT THEY CAN INDENT THEIR DISTRICT FOUR. YOU CAN BARELY BUILD THE STAIRS THAT BRIAN SHOWED EARLIER TONIGHT FOR 3.5 MILLION. I SHARED THAT OUR CYST VALUATION IN WASHINGTON IS $100 MILLION. EVERY STUDENT IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON DESERVES HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION. EXCELLENT STAFF IN SCHOOL BUILDINGS THAT ARE RESPONSIVE TO THE EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF KIDS. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO PROVIDE CHEMISTRY IN THEIR SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR OVER 30 YEARS. SO IT WAS A GREAT CONVERSATION. I WAS VERY HONORED TO BE INVITED AND TO BE ABLE TO SPEAK ABOUT LAKE WASHINGTON. OUR NEEDS AND THE CHALLENGES WE HAVE HERE . AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT REALLY IS ABOUT KIDS AND THEIR EXPERIENCES. IT WAS A GOOD EVENT. GLAD I COULD BE THERE.HAVE ANYTHING FOR PUBLIC AND COMMUNITY AFFAIRS?
>> YES. I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND A CIVIC HEALTH ENGAGEMENT WORKSHOP RUN BY LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR . THEY ARE PURSUING CIVIC DIALOGUE ON HOW WE WORK TO IMPROVE THAT WITHIN WASHINGTON STATE. A YEAR-LONG. CONNECTING THE IDEA . THIS WORKSHOP WAS ABOUT UNPACKING WHAT THEY LEARNED FROM THAT AND WHAT ACTIVITIES WE CAN USE GOING FORWARD. MULTIPLE THINGS. LOCAL DINNER IS AN -- THERE'S ORGANIZATIONS WORKING IN. BRINGING PEOPLE FROM DIVERSE VIEWPOINTS TOGETHER TO REALLY DIG INTO SOME OF THOSE ISSUES AND HAVE A VERY FACILITATED DISCUSSION SO THAT THEY CAN WALK OUT OF THERE HAVING BEEN HEARD . IT WAS KIND OF A NEAT -- THERE WERE 100 PEOPLE AT LEAST. WE HAD NON- PROFITS. MULTIPLE ELECTEDS FROM THE STATE LEVEL AS WELL AS DIFFERENT SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS THERE. VERY ACTIVELY PARTICIPATING. THEY ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVE A POTENTIALLY ENGAGE MORE. JUST RECOGNIZING IT. AFTER THE LEDGE ASSEMBLY WE HELD , SPECIFIC DIALOGUE THAT OCCURRED IN THAT ENVIRONMENT. THERE WAS SOME THOUGHT AFTER THIS. IT WOULD BE GREAT AS WE HAVE SOME OF THIS POLARIZATION, HOW DO WE COME TOGETHER AND HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS? IT IS REALLY EXCITING TO SEE THIS TAKING ROOT. THERE IS A BROAD VARIETY OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO ARE A PART OF THAT. REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE CITY OF. REDMAN POLICE DEPARTMENT REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE COMMUNITY AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT DEPARTMENT. AND THEN A NUMBER OF PARENTS . SOME WEARING THEIR PTA HAD AND SOME JUST BEING COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
VERY INTERESTING COLLECTION -- TO BE PART OF. WE LOOKED THROUGH SOME OF THE EXISTING DATA AROUND COMMUNITY RESOURCE OFFICER ENGAGEMENT AND THE GROUP HAD A LOT OF FEEDBACK ON THAT. CAME UP WITH SOME COMMUNITY AGREEMENTS FOR THAT GROUP. I SHOULD ALSO MENTION THERE IS A FACILITATOR , WHO IS MARY JONES, WHO HAD NEVER HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET BEFORE, BUT SHE IS FABULOUS. REALLY ENJOYED HAVING HER THERE. FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, SHE RAN FOR STATE SUPERINTENDENT. SHE NOW DOES CONSULTING AROUND BASICALLY HELPING DISTRICTS HAVE HARD CONVERSATIONS , ESPECIALLY AROUND -- JUST HARD CONVERSATIONS. ESPECIALLY WITH A RACIAL FOCUS. GREAT TO HAVE HER THERE. THEN WE LOOKED AT THE DRAFT M.O. YOU. THE DISTRICT . THE FOUR POLICE DEPARTMENTS WE WERE WITH.
LOOKING AT THE LANGUAGE OF THAT. SOME OF THE RCWS AND OTHER LAWS AROUND COMMUNITY RESOURCE OFFICERS . THEY HAD SOME DISCUSSION AROUND THAT. ONE THING -- IT FITS IN REALLY WELL WITH OUR CONVERSATION WE HAD AROUND BOARD MEMBER COMPENSATION. THAT COMMUNITY AND THAT GROUP. THERE WAS A STRONG REQUEST FOR CHILDCARE. A NUMBER OF MEMBERS WHO WERE ABLE TO BE THERE BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE CHILDCARE. SO I DON'T KNOW IF THAT IS SOMETHING THE OTHER COMMITTEES ARE HEARING AS WELL. BUT ESPECIALLY IF WE ARE SEEING GET IS A POTENTIAL PROVING GROUNDS . WE ARE ACTUALLY HUMAN BEINGS. YOU CAN DO THIS JOB. I PROMISE. WHAT WE FOUND WHEN WE DID OUR GROUP EXERCISES OR WHEN I OBSERVED THEIR GROUP EXERCISES , EVERYBODY IN THAT ROOM HAD A VERY, VERY SIMILAR VALUES.
