I THINK IT'S APPROPRIATE FOR US TO RECOGNIZE THE BOARD'S WORK IN THIS WAY AND SO IN THAT I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A MOMENT JUST TO SHARE WHAT IS A PORT DISTINCTION AND HOW TO SUPPORT GET RECOGNIZED IN THIS MANNER? REALLY THIS PROGRAM IS ABOUT HELPING SCHOOL BOARDS GOVERN SUCCESSFULLY BY ALIGNING THEIR EFFORTS WITH THE WASHINGTON SCHOOL BOARD STANDARDS.

THE STANDARDS REALLY DO HIGHLIGHT WHAT EFFECTIVE SCHOOL BOARDS DO IN THEIR PRACTICES AND THEIR COMMITMENTS TO IMPACT AND AFFECT STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. THERE IS DISTINCT COMPONENTS AND THEY CALL IT INSPECT IDENTIFY AND INSPIRE. THE SCHOOL BOARD CONSIDERS DATA THAT'S RELEVANT TO PROVIDE INFORMATION AND EVIDENCE RELATED TO THE REQUIRED ESSAYS

AND SO EVERY YEAR THEY PUT FORWARD VARIOUS COMPONENTS FOR THE SCHOOL BOARD TO CONSIDER.

IT'S ABOUT ALIGNING DATA WITH THOSE ACTIONS.HAD THE BOARD NOT TAKING SPECIFIC ACTIONS YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO ALIGN DATA WITH THOSE. IDENTIFYING AND CONNECTING DATA RESULTS, OUTCOMES AND IMPACT AS PART OF THIS PROCESS. I LOOKED AT HOW THESE ARE EVALUATED AND IT'S ACTUALLY A PANEL OF JUDGES THAT INCLUDE FORMER AND CURRENT ESD SUPERINTENDENTS ARE EDUCATIONAL SUPERINTENDENT STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION BOARD MEMBERS AND FORMER SCHOOL DIRECTORS. GO THROUGH A PROCESS OF ACTUALLY SCORING THE SUBMITTAL BASED ON A RUBRIC AND THOSE THAT MEET THE QUALIFICATIONS OF SCORING ACTUALLY ARE AWARDED THE SCHOOL BOARD OF DISTINCTION AWARD. THAT MEANS THAT THERE ARE SUBMITTALS THAT COULD NOT QUALIFY AND THERE ARE SUBMITTALS THAT DO QUALIFY.

>> I'M HERE TO DISCUSS ANTI-SEMITISM OCCURRING IN OUR COMMUNITY AND THE LACK OF RESPONSE FOR THE DISTRICT TO THE ATROCITIES THAT TOOK PLACE ON OCTOBER 7. A LOCAL JEWISH COMMUNITY HAS BEEN DISCUSSING THE INFLUX OF ANTI-SEMITIC AGGRESSIONS HAPPENING AT OUR SCHOOL SINCE THE MASSACRE IN ISRAEL.I WANT TO PREFACE BY REMINDING THE BOARD OF THE STANDS ON MEETING WITH EQUITY. WE WILL WORK TO HARNESS AND INCLUDE THE POWER AND WISDOM OF HISTORICALLY MARGINALIZED AND TRADITIONALLY NONDOMINANT COMMUNITIES.

JEWS MAKE UP .2% OF THE WORLD POPULATION. IN THE PAST 15 YEARS THERE'VE BEEN SEVERAL MAJOR ATTACKS ON JEWS IN THE UNITED STATES. WE HAVE BEEN HUNTED AND EXILED GLOBALLY FOR MILLENNIA AND JUST SINCE 1945 WE ARE DOWN AT WELL OVER 6 MILLION JEWS.

JOURNALIST BARRY WHITE STATED THAT ANTI-SEMITISM IS A SHAPE SHIFTING WORLDVIEW WHERE JEWS ARE TRANSFORMED INTO WHATEVER A GIVEN SOCIETY HATES MOST.LAKE WASHINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT PROUDLY DISPLAYED INCLUSIVITY AND CARE WITH AN INCREDIBLY CLEAR STANCE SUPPORTING BLACK LIVES MATTER, LGBT QI A STUDENT'S IN THE UKRAINE CONFLICT.

MANDATED HALF MASK FLAGS WITH THE GENERICALLY VAGUE RATIONALE IN RECOGNITION OF LIVES LOST ART CRYPTIC AND AMBIGUOUS RESPONSES THAT DO NOT RECOGNIZE THE EMOTIONAL IMPACT THESE ATTACKS HAVE HAD IN OUR JEWISH STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. THE NEUTRALITY IS EVIDENT THEREFORE THIS NEUTRALITY BEGS THE QUESTION WHAT IS THIS PUBLICIZED COMPASSION WHEN IT COMES TO CHOOSE? THIS SENDS A MESSAGE TO CHILDREN THAT MARGINALIZATION ONLY MATTERS UNDER HIGHLY SPECIFIC PRECEDENTS. STUDENTS ARE KEY SCARED TO IDENTIFY THEMSELVES AS JEWISH. AS THIS ANGRY MOB GROWS PREPONDERANT SO DOES THE THREAT FOR JEWS AROUND THE WORLD. THIS PAST WEEKEND MY SISTERS SYNAGOGUE IN SEATTLE WAS SENT A THREATENING LETTER PROMPTING THE FBI TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION.

THE REALITY IS THAT YOUR WORDS AND LACK OF WORDS HAVE A FUNDAMENTAL IMPACT ON THE SAFETY OF US AND MORE IMPORTANTLY OUR CHILDREN. WE WITNESS THE RESULTS OF INSTITUTIONS TAKING AN OBSCURE STANCE ON ANTI-SEMITISM. THIS PAVES THE WAY FOR INDIVIDUALS TO CONCLUDE THEIR IMMUNE FROM CONSEQUENCE BECAUSE THOSE IN POSITIONS OF POWER WILL REPRIMAND THIS BEHAVIOR. THE HOLOCAUST DIDN'T START WITH GAS CHAMBERS.

IT BEGAN WITH HATE SPEECH, INTOLERANCE AND THE MOST PROFOUND DETERMINATE SILENCE AND INDIFFERENCE. WE URGE YOU DOCTOR HOMAN AND THE BOARD TO MAKE A CLEAR CONCISE STATEMENT CONDEMNING THE ACTS OF TERRORISM AGAINST THE JEWS.

WE URGE YOU TO NOTIFY THE STUDENT BODY THAT ANTI-SEMITISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND WE URGE YOU TO IMPLEMENT THE SAME LEVEL OF CARE AND EDUCATION THAT YOU DO FOR THE OTHER MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES OF OUR DISTRICT. YOUR LACK OF RESPONSE WAS A RESPONSE AND WE HEARD IT LOUD AND CLEAR. [APPLAUSE]

I HAVE THREE KIDS IN LAKE WASHINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT, TWO ARE CURRENTLY IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND MY THIRD IS IN PRESCHOOL ABOUT THEM. KINDERGARTEN.

I AM JEWISH AND ISRAELI AND I MOVED IN WITH MY FAMILY ALMOST 10 YEARS AGO.

I GREW UP WITH COURAGEOUS GRANDPARENTS THAT SURVIVED THE HOLOCAUST AFTER THEIR ENTIRE FAMILIES WERE MURDERED BY THE NAZIS. GROWING UP WITH THE SURRENDER STORY SURROUNDING ME I COULD NEVER QUITE UNDERSTAND HOW SUCH THINGS COULD EVEN BE POSSIBLE.

UNFORTUNATELY THE PAST THREE WEEKS PROVED TO ME VERY QUICKLY HOW HATE SPREADS SO QUICKLY.

SINCE OCTOBER 7 HOW MOST SUPPORTERS AND OTHER ANTI-SOMATIC PEOPLE HAVE THREATENED AND TARGETED ISRAELI INDIVIDUALS AND INSTITUTIONS AROUND THE WORLD.

IT'S THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON AND STREETS OF SEATTLE ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND JUST EVERYWHERE. I AM A CRIMINAL PROSECUTOR. I REPRESENT THE CITY OF SEATTLE IN CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS. MY ENTIRE PURPOSE AT MY JOB EVERY DAY IS TO MAKE MY COMMUNITY, OUR COMMUNITY AND THE SURROUNDINGS SAFER PLACE. WE HAVE PARENTS DOING SHIFTS AROUND THE PRESCHOOL AND KIDS GO TO PLAY OUTSIDE BECAUSE WE

JUST TWO WEEKS AGO LAKE WASHINGTON SCHOOL VOLUNTEER AT MY DAUGHTER'S ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAME UP TO AN ISRAELI GROUP OF MOMS AND SHOUTED AT US FREE PALESTINE, FREE GAZA WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?AND SHE IS AN AUTHORIZED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. I BELIEVE THAT THEY HAVE THE EDUCATION OF OUR KIDS IN THE COMMUNITIES AND IT'S IN YOUR HANDS.I WANT TO BELIEVE THAT IF WE WORK TOGETHER AND WE MAKE IT A PRIORITY OUR KIDS WILL BE SAFER IN OUR COMMUNITY WILL BE MORE RESILIENT.

LAKE WASHINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT PUTS STRONG EMPHASIS ON THE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION. I'M VERY DISHEARTENED TO SAY THAT IT'S BEEN CHALLENGING FOR US FEEL INCLUDED. ALL THE MORE SO SINCE THEY ATTACK IN ISRAEL A MONTH AGO IT'S IMPORTANT FOR ME TO COME HERE AND TO SHARE THIS WITH THE BOARD. IF YOU ARE IT'S ABOUT OUR FAMILY HISTORY.

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE BORN IN RUSSIA. LIVED MOST OF OUR LIVES IN ISRAEL WHICH IS WHERE OUR CHILDREN WERE BORN. MOVED TO CANADA IN 2016 AND EVENTUALLY HERE IN 2021. MY FAMILY HAS A STRONG JEWISH AND ISRAELI IDENTITY.

WE KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE JEWISH IN ISRAEL AND OUTSIDE OF IT.

GROWING UP IT WAS AN EASY. I WAS CALLED NAMES BECAUSE MY JEWISH LAST NAME AND HOW DO I DEAL WITH THAT? WE LIVE IN FEAR. IS IT OKAY TO WEAR MY STAR OF DAVID NECKLACE OR NOT? WHY AM I TELLING YOU THIS NOW? I KIDS DIDN'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS FOR MOST OF THEIR LIVES. THEY DIDN'T FACE IT FOR THE 4 AND A HALF YEARS WE LIVED IN CANADA. UNFORTUNATELY THEY LEARNED ABOUT IT FIRST HAND AFTER MOVING HERE. MANY OF OUR FRIENDS HERE HAVE THE SAME EXPERIENCE I WENT ABSOLUTELY DESTROYS ME IS THE LACK OF RESPONSE.

IT'S BEEN A VERY STRESSFUL MONTH. WE ARE WORRIED ABOUT FAMILY AND FRIENDS IN ISRAEL BUT WE ARE VERY ANXIOUS ABOUT THE SAFETY ABOUT THOSE THATARE HERE .

WE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE PROCEDURE BEHIND THESE INCIDENTS SHOULD BE AND WHAT THE CONFLICT AND RESPONSE TIME SHOULD BE. I'M ASKING THIS GROUP TO ENSURE

OPPORTUNITY TO YOU TODAY. I'M HERE TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT A SERIOUS AND URGENT ISSUE THAT AFFECTS OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY IN OUR SOCIETY. THE RISE OF ANTI-SEMITISM IN THE UNITED STATES PARTICULARLY FOLLOWING THE MASSACRE AGAINST ISRAELI CIVILIANS IN ISRAEL LAST MONTH. SINCE THE HORRIFIC ATROCITIES AGAINST ISRAELI CIVILIANS BY THE TERROR ORGANIZATION HAMAS ON OCTOBER 7, INCIDENTS OF ANTI-SEMITISM HAS GONE UP BY AN ALMOST 400%. IT REACHES THE HIGHEST LEVEL EVER REPORTED BY THE ADA.

THESE INCIDENTS INCLUDE HARASSMENT, VANDALISM AND THREATS AGAINST JEWS, ISRAELI AND JEWISH INSTITUTIONS. JUST THIS PAST THURSDAY THE ENVELOPE WITH A SUSPICIOUS WHITE POWDER AND HATE MESSAGES WERE SENT TO A SYNAGOGUE IN SEATTLE AND IS NOW BEING INVESTIGATED BY THE FBI. THE SQUIRREL WERE ALSO SPARKED A WAVE OF PROTESTS AND INCIDENTS OF HARASSMENT AND INTIMIDATION ON COLLEGE KANSAN .

JEWISH STUDENTS MIGHT INCLUDED HAVE REPORTED FEELING UNSAFE, ISOLATED AND TARGETED BY ANTI-SEMITIC RHETORIC AND ACTIONS. MANY OF THEM AVOID WEARING ANY JEWISH SYMBOLS WHILE ON CAMPUS. SOME HAVE AVOIDED OR WITHDRAWN FROM CAMPUS ACTIVITIES OR CLASSES. HE ANTI-SEMITIC INCIDENTS ARE ALWAYS FOLLOWING.

ANTI-SEMITISM IS FUELED BY VARIOUS SOURCES OF HATRED SUCH AS WHITE SUPREMACY, RADICAL RELIGIOUS GROUPS AND ANTI-VINE IS ON. ANTI-SEMITISM IS NOT ONLY A THREAT TO CHOOSE BUT TO EVERYONE WHO VALUES DEMOCRACY, HUMAN RIGHTS AND DIVERSITY.

WE CANNOT AFFORD TO BE SILENT OR INDIFFERENT. WE MUST STAND UP AND SPEAK AGAINST IT. WE MUST EDUCATE OURSELVES AND OTHERS ABOUT THE HISTORY AND REALITY OF ANTI-SEMITISM. WE MUST WORK TOGETHER TO CREATE A CULTURE OF RESPECT, INCLUSION AND SOLIDARITY AMONG PEOPLE REGARDLESS OF THEIR RELIGIOUS RACE OR BACKGROUND.

THERE ARE EIGHT COMPONENTS TO THIS POLICY WITH TWO DIFFERENT SECTIONS SITTING AT THE SUPERINTENDENT WILL AND THE OTHER STATES THAT THE SUPERINTENDENT WILL NOT. THOSE ARE TWO DISTINCT PARTS OF THIS POLICY.

I WANT TO INDICATE AS WE WALK INTO THIS MONITORING BUT THERE ARE TWO SPECIFIC COMPONENTS THAT ARE RATED NOT IN COMPLIANCE AND I WILL SHARE THOSE REASONS WHY WITH ONGOING EFFORTS TO GET THOSE INTO COMPLIANCE AND 10.8 IS IN COMPLIANCE WITH EXCEPTIONS AND SO THE REPORT STATES THAT THE SUMMARIES FOR THE BOARD AS WELL.
