THE FIRST TOPIC FOR DISCUSSION IS GOING TO BE THE 2024 LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE THAT WAS STEP PUTS ON. WE WANTED TO HAVE A QUICK CONVERSATION. IT LOOKS LIKE THEY HAVE CHANGED WHAT DAY ON THE HILL LOOKS LIKE THIS YEAR.
RATHER THAN HAVING THE CONFERENCE ON SUNDAY AND MONDAY ALL THE DELEGATIONS OR BOARD MEMBERS GO IN SPEAKING WITH THEIR DELEGATES AND ADVOCATING THEIR PRIORITIES. THIS YEAR, THEY ARE DOING A HOT TOPICS PANEL DISCUSSION. PANEL PRESENTATION WITH EDUCATION AND BUDGET LEADERS WHICH WILL SHARE ADVICE ON HOW BEST TO INFLUENCE YOUR LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES. I HAVE HAD SOME DISCUSSIONS WITH STAFF AND I THINK THE CONSENSUS IS THAT EVENTUALLY THIS ISN'T VERY USEFUL. IT IS NOT A VERY USEFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR US BECAUSE WE WON'T GET TO SPEAK WITH LEGISLATORS. AND THEREFORE, THERE IS A QUESTION OF WHETHER OR NOT IT IS WORTH THE MONEY AND THE TIME FOR BOARD MEMBERS TO GO AND PARTICIPATE. THE CONFERENCE PORTION ON SUNDAY IS A VIRTUAL ATTENDANCE OPTIONS WE CAN ALL ATTEND THAT VIRTUALLY AND THEN FOR MONDAY THE THOUGHT IS THAT POTENTIALLY WE AS A DISTRICT WILL COORDINATE OUR OWN DAY ON THE HILL WHERE WE WOULD GO AND TALK SPECIFICALLY TO OUR REPRESENTATIVES. SO, EITHER WE GO AS A GROUP AND MEET WITH OUR OWN LEGISLATOR DOWN THERE ON THAT SAME DAY OR ON THAT MONDAY, BUT WHAT MY THOUGHT IS WHETHER WE GO DOWN AND MEET WITH OUR LEGISLATORS ON THAT MONDAY OR ANY OTHER DAY TO ME THAT'S OPTIONAL. WE'VE ALREADY HAD THE MEETINGS WITH THEM LOCALLY AND IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A FACE-TO-FACE WITH THE ONES WE HAD VIRTUALLY. BUT I REALLY DON'T SEE THE SENSE. NEXT DISCUSSION BUT I AM HAPPY TO INTRODUCE THE NEXT TOPIC.AS WE WENT THROUGH OUR MONITORING LAST YEAR, TWO OF THE POLICIES THAT THE BOARD IN THE DILLY INDICATED THAT THEY WANTED TO DISCUSS WERE NUMBER 3 AND NUMBER 9 BOTH WERE IN RELATION TO THE EXPERIENCE THAT OUR COMMUNITY HAS IN ENGAGEMENT AND COMMUNICATION WITH THE DISTRICT. THERE'S QUITE A BIT OF CROSSOVER BETWEEN THOSE TWO. THEY USED TO BE LINKED AS EXECUTIVE LIMITATION NUMBER 5 ON THE COURT POLICY GOVERNMENT SO THAT GOT SCOTT WITH THE UPDATING POLICY IN THE LONG RUN SO THE VALUES THAT THE BOARD HAS AROUND THESE CRITICAL AREAS TRULY DO ALIGN WITH WHERE THE BOARD IS TODAY AS OPPOSED TO IT REALLY FEELS LIKE 2019, 2018 AND 2017 LANGUAGE. WITH THAT I'M GOING TO GO OVER TO DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT KILLING HIM.

THESE ARE TWO THAT HAVE NOT BEEN TOUCHED. AS WE TALKED ABOUT THIS TODAY I THINK WE REALLY WANT TO GET A SENSE OF-OUR POLICY SHOULD BE A REFLECTION OF THE VALUES OF THE BOARD. COMING BACK AND STARTING AND EXPLORING THOSE VALUES AND INTERESTS IS WHAT WE ARE HOPING TO DO TODAY AND THAT WILL GIVE US SOME DIRECTION AS TO SOME RECOMMENDATIONS OR CONSIDERATIONS. THEY DO THINGS LIKE HAVE A SUMMER READING PROGRAM WHERE THEY MAILED MY KID MY ONE SUBSCRIBER AT THE TIME DIFFERENT MATERIALS LIKE PLATO TO DO AN ACTIVITY ONE WEEK OR ONE OF THEM WAS A TACTILE PUZZLE PIECE BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE VISUALLY IMPAIRED.IT WAS LIKE A PUZZLE PIECE. AND YES, I KNOW THEY HAVE DONE THIS 5000 TIMES ANNUALLY FOR KIDS THAT ENROLLED BUT PROBABLY THOUSANDS MORE TIMES FOR KIDS THAT ACTUALLY DON'T CHOOSE TO GO THERE.
