Board Policy Regulations - Chip - State Board revised the grad req which reuiqres a third math credcit - currenlty our req. gives studnet an option - suggesting change our grad req to be in alignment with the state req. I ti sfor those students do want to ahve admission into colelge - they expect kdis to have calcus or rigous course in their senior year. Other changes to the grad rqe one is to restrict the number of o credit allows from outside agency - ccontinuing trend of students taking classes from outside of questionable crediabilyt and transferring them in - liminting number of courses - and lastly added redquir clearly identify which do meet the CADRS set of standard now req by Hec Board and control by State Board whtehr or not admissabile by four -year instiution and studnets must take three CARD courses every academic year. Nancy - proposing to impelmeent - changes on here without quickly - but trying to see the other changes - Dan - reviewing changes Chris - no seat time - acceptant of outside courses at the judgetment of principal Chip - no more and more online courses which are not seat time competency quite rigous and acceptable and others which are not. Jackie - do studnets getting preapproval to be eligible. Nancy -have the most question - why we make sure that coutside classes - don't understand the limit fo the three classes. Dan - conversation with Bellevue and one of the things and need to put a limit on this i it s districtwide limit and can't allow much flexibility in that - the reaon literally went ot bellueve - some excpetions that can be made outside of that - can't ahve one building practice of taking lal credits and nother bvuildin taking no credits beings to quantify this practice Chip - som ebuilidng s establsih their own credit so standardizing practice across the district. Nancy - still don't understand why limit the number of credits if they meet our criteria - standaring betwen bujilding s- kids are getting some reuqirment there other means dnace with Pacific NOrthwest Ballet. Dan - way san dexceptoin ways to go back in and talk reasons why you can't - reaons alternate experience credit bring them in anoth way. Nancy - not limiting options as long as they meet riog Jackie is why did you choose number thre eDan - needed some method of standard approval not arbiturary building - Jackie - whey three not five Dan - did what Zbbellevue is doing Nancy - does Bellevue needed to limit it Nancy - how often is this with kdis but seeing more and moer studeepign out and coming back quite quickly with credits. Nancy - so understand that problem - now there are a lot of ther options out there Dan - not liming if kids are doing online courses online within our own system - but does limit the ability to step outside. Nancy - feel unccomfortable voting on that without more information Chip - the more infor to adopt tonight is the math credit - so certainly the board can modify the resolution to not acdep tan dnot a whole issue andNacy can abstain from the vote. I speak to you for a oment. I have simlar questions is on the one hand is it creating a monoply by saing kids have to talke all cllases without system yet on the other part of th eproblem game playing exist with kdis and when does LW diploma no longer becomes LW unlimited about of classes that kids can get. Some schools very restricited and very schools very liberal. Where wshouls dhta standar be. Limit of two, others don't have limit just principal approval, sol as Dan suggested three starting point, two, three, four, five - rather arbritrat standard. Get beter number - some systems higher, some lwoer - I do think it i important we have a number monitor whether or not this policy is limiting kids to be subccuful. Nancy - if we adopt this provision tonight that impacts kids fo th ewe chagne it. Chip - this fall incoming class would be clas of 2013. The reason why I think worthwhile to put it on standreaonsalb eand number of provision in there for excpetion. Talks about this applying to clases available insdie system - wants to talke Latin and they that doesn't count twoard the three - those classes inside our styme - enough exceptions to this feel comfortable where it is today - the rest of the board needst o freel level of comfortable as ell. Doug - start somewher and without knowing in idea world had this more consistently a long time ago I think we have to consider your judgemetn and staff judgemtn how best to proceed. Jackie -knowing not a time this policy sits Nancy -kids are only in the sytem for a few years. Spanish off campus- offered on campus - need approved - now took Spnaish, History - that becomes a problem Nancy -she didn't do it for four credits - all four credits - Nancy - three gets me - worry about you know the three if there are other instidents. Dan - took already full load Nancy - she was starting quicker and continuing with th eperson from in fourth rade - Dan - the question I would ahve in that instance totally appropriate would is it likely more than three reasons liek that during hs career. I think starting with three is reasonable. Got kids during four five six credits, it is offered an ins't schedulign problem - that student is actually playing hte game avoid the riog - that is what we are tring t Nancy - how much Chip good start place - adopt the policy - Chris - I am looking at from the standpoint one appreciative the value of Lake Washing credit is half a year one could be getting crdit somewhere else - does have loopholes - needs to take course - what is not concurent - got kid abroad - get credit for that year - too that extent okay but except with experience with brotherinlaw - externally from the district - I think I am ok with it. Chip - the other thing I want ot point out alternatives ofr kids inside the system, FLC, online courses, all o fthoese things don't countagainst the student - courses hosting. Chris - would like more information not so concerned that this is not the first step. Jackie -how this plays out and get some information - I think if we find it is aporblem I think we need to know that and make the adjusmtnt - four is it continue they need all four years of it to get the fuour creidt that may be the number Dan - we will bring you back data. Nancy -revisit it in a eyar with data. Chip - What data you would like Nancy - the numbers of kids doing this, why, doesn't sound liek that mnay Chris -how many owuld be affected Chip - how many studnets are accumulating credits from outside the sytsem Chris - what subject - coul dthey have tken it in the subject. Dan - why are you doing this - mostly speculation - Nancy - principals have to approve this Nancy - Eastlkae was too restrttive. Jackie if they fill it in, but once it goes into place they we can get the data. Jackie -not a bad data point more an dmore online course touside the datist what kind of impact will it have on our system. Do all four years elsehwere and get a LW disiploma. Nancy -should be criteria for which these courses are approved. For example the place where there is a prblelm and knwoe the content and take Alegra one off campus anc ome back with certificate off campus question is did was it truly equivalent aclsso Chip - preapprvoed. Jacie -princpial has some amterials in front of them. Nancy if we come back in a year and assess it.
